With standing room only, Dillard students, faculty, and staff pack the Bell Chase room on the 3rd floor of the Hilton Riverside Hotel as Mayor C. Ray Nagin speaks during a candid relaxed discussion.
During the hour, a humble Nagin answered questions about the heightened crime in the city, what he plans to do about it, progress on the levee system, education, and the mayor’s future plans for the Big Easy.
The captive predominantly college-aged audience was tentative and receptive to Nagin’s remarks.
He joked with the audience saying “I have to be careful what I say, he said jokingly. “I know the media is here somewhere.”
The mayor didn’t close without talking about the austere differences between him and running mate, Lieutenant Gov. Mitch Landrieu. Debate panelists note that they are on two separate ends of the political personality spectrum.
