NEW ORLEANS (Feb.21, 2013)- A New Orleans student has won the top prize for her rap in the Rap in Math Errors Competition sponsored by the math department.
Breanna Ryan earned the top prize of $400, besting 11 other competitors on Jan. 31, according to Dr. Hong Dai, competition co-chair and associate professor of mathematics/business.
The best 12 were chosen to take home prizes totaling $1,400 through a grant from the Louisiana Board of Regents Enhancement of Actuarial Science Program-Phase IV.
Other winners included:
- Second place, $200 each to Taylor Pantalian and Lyndon Catalan.
- Third place, $100 each to Paul Mallard, Jevonte’ Ezzard and Jasmine Caldwell.
- Fourth place, $50 each to Amber Tramel, Dominic White, Derrick Hobbs, Bobby Burcey, Treshon Tipton, and Jasmine Carter.
Besides Dai, the judges included included Lynn Strong, director of Undergraduate Research and competition co-chair; Dr. Nancy Dixon, English; Celeste Landry, a Sodexo employee; theater student Derrick Hobbs; and music student Kori Bryer.
According to the website, the Dillard Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Series (DUROP Series) emphasizes and features programs and activities that offer research and creative opportunities for undergraduates. It is conducted through projects sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research in collaboration with academic and administrative divisions and units throughout the university.
