With mid-terms ending, students’ anxieties were on the rise fromthe increased stress levels and many a weary in search for relief.Dillard’s homecoming week is answering the call.
Homecoming 2004 kicked off on Sunday, Oct. 31. It is scheduledto last until Nov. 7., packed with games and parties.
The Student Government Association sponsored this year’shomecoming events. They have put together a number of activitiesfor each day, starting with Oct. 31 and ending on Nov. 7.
The events ranged from sports to movies and parties as well as adorm step off.
Students lead a service at Lawless Memorial Chapel and studentgroups put on a Halloween Fair in the Kabacoff Quadrangle on Oct31.
On Nov. 1, the week’s festivities featured a campus quest andthat Monday night one of the highlights of the week, the dormstep-off took place, with the “Hartzell Honies” of Hartzell Halltaking first place and the “Camphor Cuties” of Camphor Hall comingin second. A midnight breakfast that began at 10 p.m. untilmidnight following the step show was packed with studentsentertained by DJ Mike Swift, but was broken up by a suddenbrawl.
On Nov. 2, Election Day, students marched over to Norman MayerLibrary and exercised their right to vote in this year’spresidential election. As part of that day’s activities a pollparty was also held at the flag poll on the Avenue of the Oaks.
The pep rally was scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 3. Studentsattended the Grand 12 Movie Theatre screening of the film “Ray,”starring Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles.
A DU Field Day is scheduled for the Avenue of the Oaks from noonto 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4., and the Miss Dillard Social isscheduled to take place that Thursday at 7 p.m. in Kearny Hall WestWing.
The crowning day of the homecoming week, the coronation ceremonyof Miss Dillard Morjoriee White on Friday, Nov. 5, will allowstudents to get dolled up in their tuxedos and evening gowns asthey represent their various organizations. The program in DentHall begins at 8 p.m.
The day’s events will also include a men’s basketball game atDelgado Community College, a vendors fair in Kabacoff and an eventcalled campus quest.
Dillard’s homecoming parade will be on Saturday, Nov. 6. Therewill be a tailgate party in Kabacoff Quadrangle from 2 p.m. to 4p.m. and it will be immediately followed by a volleyball game inthe Henson Hall Gymnasium.
The last day of this year’s homecoming will end the way itbegan, a student lead chapel service. The festivities conclude whenDillard battles Xavier University in a flag football game at 2:30pm.
