NEW ORLEANS (February 9,2023)–The Bleu Devils pulled off a 40 point road win against Southern University at New Orleans Monday, Jan. 30 after suffering a three game losing streak.
The men’s basketball team started off strong with a dynamic first half leading 47-26. The team combined for 51.5% FG and 38.5% three point attempts. The team began the second half quickly increasing the distance by scoring two more points within the first 13 seconds to make the score 47-26.
Kenyon Duling, a senior point guard from Chigaco, joined Dwight Felton, also a senior point guard, from Baltimore, in hitting the 1,000 career point milestone. He ended the game with 24 points to help bring the Bleu Devils to a 102-62 victory. Regarding the victory Duling stated, “[It] felt good to find a rhythm after struggling last game. Not only for me but my teammates as well, seeing a couple shots go down early gave us the confidence throughout the game that we needed to get the W.”
The Lady Bleu Devils left SUNO with a 60-36 road win after a tough first half. After coming out and tying the game up again 23-23, senior guard Ariana Hart came in and scored seven points in the third quarter. Hart, a senior guard from Birmingham, Ala., walked away with 15 points that night. The Lady Bleu Devils strong defensive efforts held the Lady Knights to 22% FG. Cassidy Lowe, a sophomore forward from Boca Raton, Fla. had seven defensive rebounds. The team had 19 total points from players off the bench.
The Bleu Devils will face the Knights again Wednesday Feb. 15 for the Bleu Devil Classic with the ladies playing at 5 and the men playing at 7:30 p.m. in Dent Hall. “I would expect a lot of people to come out for the last home game and it being senior night, just being able to celebrate with those guys and try to get a win against SUNO,” states Duling. General admission tickets are $25, but Dillard students will be able to purchase tickets for $15 with their school ID.
