NEW ORLEANS (April 13, 2017) – The Gentilly Gardens apartments will receive some major attention this summer, including painting, new flooring and structural repairs, according to Adonis Woods, director of facilities management.
Woods said work is needed since the last work was post-Katrina.
He said carpeting will be removed and new flooring installed; exterior doors will be secured; interior damage will be repaired and the apartment interiors repainted.
Dillard University staff will do some of the renovation work, and outside contractors will also handle some of the workload. He said staff will be in charge of painting and some repairs and outside contractors will be in charge of flooring and structural repairs.
Woods said he couldn’t give an estimate on the cost to renovate all the apartments.
“It is difficult to renovate all of the apartments fully without utilizing alternative delivery methods for construction because of the age of the apartments. At this time, it is impossible to say what the cost will be because some apartments will require more work than others,” said Woods.
When asked about pest control and checks/sprays in the Gardens for insects, Woods said DU has a contract with a pest control company that is onsite almost every day handling pest control, work orders and inspections. Any work orders sent to facilities are normally addressed within 24 hours, he said.
