As the wind picks up on the oaks and the air grows crisp, anticipation is building for the upcoming volleyball season. This year, the Bleu Devils’ volleyball team has been hard at work during the offseason, honing their skills and building team chemistry.
Coach Angela Franke has expressed confidence in the team’s potential, highlighting their dedication, teamwork, and strategic play as strengths that could carry them deep into the playoffs.
During this year’s season, Cadence Thomas, [Classification: Sophomore, Major: Social work, Position: MIDDLE BLOCKER/ HITTER] one of the Team Captains shares what will keep her motivated through this season, “I will make sure I keep positive energy around me. No negative energy this year because that hurts me and the team as a whole. I plan to motivate others so we can come out on top.”
Also Vanae Snapp, [Classification, Senior, Major: Criminal Justice, Position: Outside Hitter] another team captain shared, “I’m most looking forward to watching how the team grows throughout the season as we learn each other better and develop our team chemistry.”
The next home game is set for Sept. 10, where our team will face off against the University of Mobile, a fierce competitor known for their strong defensive play. This match is expected to be a litmus test for the team.
Last home game, Makeala Swoopes, a freshman outside hitter, made a great debut for the team’s first home game. She had one of the highest kills of 6. Also, she shared ways that will help her improve for this season, “always looking for ways to increase my vertical and the speed of my arm swing. I feel like improving these abilities will increase my athleticism and make me a better player overall.
Fans are encouraged to come out and support our volleyball team. Whether you’re a seasoned fan or new to the sport, the energy in the gym during a volleyball match is something you won’t want to miss. With a packed schedule of home and away games, there will be plenty of opportunities to catch the action and cheer on our team.
