According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Storm Francine has formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to impact the Louisiana Coast, on Wednesday evening this week. Hazardous conditions could occur as soon as Tuesday evening.
The storm is expected to be a category 1 hurricane in the New Orleans area, meaning to expect winds to be at an average of 74 to 95 miles per hour. New Orleans residents can expect heavy rains and possible flooding. Most of Louisiana, including New Orleans was placed at a moderate risk for inland flooding.
Tropical Storm Maxine, although somewhat uncertain, is on track to move northwest from its location in the Gulf of Mexico towards the Gulf Coast, subjecting the upper Texas & Louisiana coastline to extreme and possibly life-threatening weather conditions. As of right now, the storm is moving at 5 mph and has had maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour, but the storm is expected to intensify as it makes its way to the Gulf Coast.
