On Tuesday, Sept. 2, Gentilly residents experienced a localized power outage early in the morning.
Several hundred Entergy customers were impacted by the outage, said a spokesperson from Entergy New Orleans. After an initial investigation, the outage was caused by a vehicle striking a terminal pole, which then damaged an underground cable, they said.
“Entergy crews worked as quickly and safely as possible to restore service,” said the spokesperson.
The outage left Dillard University’s campus and the new Innovation Collective residence hall without power during the morning.
“The power went out at eight this morning, and I didn’t wake up til 9:30,” said student athlete Trenity Pender. “I had to shower in the dark, use the restroom in the dark. My window was my only source of light, and my MacBook was the only source of charging my device.”
All customers, including Dillard, had their power restored within the day, according to the spokesperson. Though Pender still found the outage inconvenient, especially for the brand new residence hall, she said.
