This past Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, Dillard University hosted the highly anticipated grand re-opening of its campus restaurant, Original Burger Company (OBC) Grill, in collaboration with Dillard Dining.
Replacing the former campus restaurant, World of Wings (WOW), OBC Grill introduced a revamped menu with items to meet students’ preferences. The new menu includes breakfast sandwiches, po’boys, many ways to style a burger, and much more. Guests can choose from multiple toppings, sauces, and styles to personalize their meals.
At the bottom of the Student Union, the grand re-opening featured giveaways from Sodexo, information about campus meal plans, as well as social media cards to help the campus stay connected with Dillard Dining. Many in attendance shared their excitement about the expanded food options and the welcoming new look of the restaurant.
“I’m glad we have something different on campus. I had always heard good things about OBC from previous years, but it’s good to experience it on my own,” said Derrick Brown, a junior student.
Although there’s excitement over fresh dining choices on campus, not all students are fully satisfied with the transition. Some feel that the switch from WOW to the OBC Grill has actually narrowed their options instead of broadening them. WOW’s menu, with its focus on chicken wings, had more green options such as salads and wraps. While OBC Grill introduces burgers, po’boys, and breakfast items, students, like junior Josiah Davis, expressed concern that the menu is still limited and lacks the variety they enjoyed at WOW.
“The food is good, but the new restaurant took away some of my favorites, like the salads and different sides we could have,” said Davis. “WOW had more variety, and sometimes I just wanted something lighter than a burger or po’boy. I like OBC, but I wish they had kept some of those options too.”
With its modern design and menu built for variety, the OBC Grill is expected to become a new campus hub for dining and student life. While some miss the variety that WOW once offered, many are embracing the chance to try fresh flavors and create their own combinations.
