The Dillard Women's Volleyball Team face Philander Smith University on Friday, Sept. 12, 2025.
The Lady Bleu Devils are holding steady as the 2025-2026 volleyball season continues. With a current record of 6-6 overall, the team has won four out of five home games and one out of five away games.
After losing two games to Xavier University of Louisiana, they have a chance to regain their footing in today’s home game against Tougaloo College at 6 p.m.
Last Saturday, the Lady Bleu Devils faced a new rival: Paul Quinn College, which was added to the HBCU Athletic Conference this season. The game was a sweep for Dillard, winning in three sets.
Standout players from the game include opposite hitter Sarai Rogers, a junior from Houston (No. 10), and outside hitter Neveah Bax, a sophomore from New Orleans (No. 3). They both had over 10 kills.
“Nobody wanted to do it by themselves, so we did it as a team,” said Neveah Bax after the win over Paul Quinn.
Setter Nanyelis Sosa-Moreno, a junior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (No. 6), made her mark in this game with 23 assists.
The team has high expectations after their winning season in 2024.
Dillard University’s women’s volleyball team celebrated winning the 2024-2025 HBCU Athletic Conference, marking a major achievement for the program. Despite losing a star player, Vanae Sappa, in her graduating year to the University of New Orleans, the team remains competitive, having added seven new players to strengthen their roster and bring fresh energy to the court.
“I want to build more camaraderie between and help the younger, newer players,” said right-side middle blocker Kadence Bubsy, a junior from Cedar Hill, Texas.
Trenity Pender is a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, and plays libero. Over the past few years, she’s seen the team transform into the champions they are today, she said.
“Learning from each other on and off the court, we began to build this crazy team chemistry that led us to being the first HBCUAC volleyball champions in 2024”, said Pender
The team is almost halfway through their games for the season, and today’s game will be their 13th.
