NEW ORLEANS (October 13, 2021) – Six freshman seek to represent the freshman Class of 2025 and three seniors are vying to represent the Class of 2022 in online elections through 5 p.m. today, according to Dr. Courtney Williams, director of student engagement and leadership.

Other positions are treasurer, class representative, senator and secretary.

Polling on Bleu Connect started at midnight, with a culminating election reveal party at 7 p.m. tonight in Georges Auditorium. No runoffs are planned for royal court positions, but

No run-off elections will be held for the royal court, relying on pluralities for a win. Students will need to have more than 51% of the votes to win, and the top three candidates with the most votes will be appointed position of senators, according Student Government Association President Mattie Harris.

She said runoffs for other slots will be held if necessary.

Freshmen elections typically are held in the fall, and other elections in the spring. However, additional classes were added to fill positions left vacant in spring 2021.

Four candidates were decided by acclamation since they are the sole candidates for the positions. DeAndrew Thomas is the new Mister Freshman; Justus Gennuso, Mister Senior; Jasmine Guy, treasurer; and Kaila Johnson, secretary.

Candidates competing for positions are listed below.

Five candidates are in the running for Miss Freshman – Kevell Byrd, Kennedy Carter, Mikayeia Richard, Jakenzie Thymes and Taylor Tunstall.

Miss Senior: Amaya Sweeney and Kennedy Bennett.

Class representative: Jermany Gray and Ravien Burns.

Senator: Madisyn Hicks, Jaznine Clark and Daliyah Dixon.

Campaigning officially began last week, with the “Royal Court Showcase” and a “Meet the Candidates” event on Oct. 8, along with virtual speeches and debates on Twitter on Oct. 7.
