NEW ORLEANS (April 13, 2017) – Five of the 20 participants, one of four teams in the annual Algebra Relay on April 5, were on the winning team, according to the announcement release by the Office of Undergraduate Research.
The event, part of Undergraduate Research Week and co-sponsored by Math and Actual Sciences, offers students a chance to compete for cash prizes by solving algebraic problems they learned in MAT 121 College Algebra on a time limit.
The winning team included Myya Brown, Thadzhane Richardson, Lauren Taylor, Angell Merrill and Todd Welch.
In individual categories, first-place winners were Grace Pruitt-Rhynes, Justiss Tyner, Lauren Taylor, Angell Merrill and Todd Welch.
Second-place winners were Myya Brown, Pasha Johnson, Unice Kamui, DaShonda Shepard and Bryniqua Payne.
Third-place winners were Hadiya Smith, Amara Edwards, Daija Mayfield, Asha Pierce and Jaylin Clark.
First-place recipients earned $100; second place, $75; and third place, $50. Students also received medals.
