The 33rd annual Bayou Classic returned home to the dome this year and was accompanied by a host of events this week to celebrate. The events included the Super Job Fair and the State Farm Bayou Classic College Fair that was held Friday at 12 p.m. at the Marriot Hotel on Canal St.
Events Coordinator, Rebecca Huges said that students could expect to see companies and historically black colleges and universities from around the country represented at the job fair and the college fair. In addition, a free Fan Festival was held at the New Orleans Arena from 10 a.m until 11p.m on Friday that featured performances from Letoya, Bobby Valentio, Currency, and DJ Unk to name a few. The fan festival continued from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. the following day. The McDonald’s Battle of Bands and Greek show started at 7 p.m. Friday night in the Super Dome. Kickoff for the big game began Saturday at 1p.m.
Several other outside events were planned to celebrate the return of the Bayou Classic. Mary J Blige held a concert on Wednesday at the New Orleans Arena. On Thanksgiving day, BG performed at the House of Blues. Rapper, Lil Wayne headlined the event “Lilweezyana Bayou Blast” that featured Bird Man, Currency, Dizzy, and Mack Maine on Saturday at 6p.m.at the State Palace. The return home was a successful one for New Orleans and students say they can’t wait for more excitement next year.
