For the first time in 50 years, the dream of a white Christmas in New Orleans and its? surrounding areas came true. Area meteorologists began hinting at a chance of snow for the area in the week leading up to Christmas Day.
There was a mixture of sleet and rain in the morning on Christmas Day, and the snow began to fall late in the afternoon. It only lasted for about 45 minutes, but that was long enough for families to play outside; trying to make snowmen on cars and snow angels on the ground.
