Lady Blue Devils get the ball rolling

Construction workers are barely seen now down the halls of Dillard University; however, the Dillard University women’s volley ball team rebuilding process does not stop. The team illustrates the quote “quality over quantity” everyday with only nine players on the roster.

“The drills that we do during conditioning are not hard, however two a days are challenging,” said Menesia Pinkney, a junior business management major from Brusly, La. “The two a day concept consist of practice at four in the morning and six in the evening.”

Each player plays an important part on the team and hopes for the team’s goal of wining conference and going to the regionals. The team holds a pre-season record of 2-2.

Tawonna Cage a junior computer science major from Houston has high hopes of the team being undeafeated this year. “Though the season is starting, conditioning never stops.”

Guided by the strength, dedication and wisdom of Yolonda Brown, Dillard’s new volleyball coach, the team chants “Meteocrity is not an option: Motivate, Dominate, WIN!” which according to the New Orleans native Alaina Smith, a junior nursing major, is all the team needs to fulfill the tasks of being awesome athletes. The women’s volley ball team’s first season home game will be against University of Mobile, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. in Dent Hall.
