NEW ORLEANS (September 26, 2019) – Dillard University is hoping to match or exceed its participation for the 32nd annual UNCF New Orleans 5K Walk-Run for Education the morning of Saturday, Oct. 12, in Audubon Park Riverview.
More than 600 DU students and 40-plus faculty participated last year, and the same or more is being sought this year, according to Dr. Marc Barnes, vice president for development. Some 800 students and personnel participated from Xavier University, according to Kimberly Woodard, director of development.
The goal is to have DU participants raise $25,000, Barnes said.
Woodard said the event last year raised $125,000, which is used for scholarships for needy students.
Students may receive community service hours for participation.
Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m., and the walk-run will start at 8:30 a.m. Register yourself and/or your team at http://bit.ly/UNCFWALK.
If you cannot attend the event, you still can support the event by sponsoring a walker or runner with a contribution. To participate yourself or to sponsor a participant, the individual cost is $35 for adults and $15 for children. A team of 10 participants may register for $400, which includes bandanas with the team name.
Single Dillard bandannas are available to attendees for $5 each.
