NEW ORLEANS (February 18, 2022) – Dillard University’s student population for spring 2022 is 1,081 students, down 11.3 percent from fall 2021 and 3 percent from spring 2021.

What does the typical student at Dillard look like? Mostly female, from Louisiana and fulltime.

According to preliminary student enrollment data from Jacques Detiege, director of assessment and analysis for the Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, more than three-quarters (77 percent) are female. All but 8 percent are fulltime. Most are from Louisiana. And most (72 percent) are in the College of Arts and Sciences, although the No. 1 major is nursing (College of Nursing).

The spring 2022 student population is down by 34 students, from 1,115 reported in the spring 2021. And 19 percent of new students who enrolled in fall 2021 did not return this spring.

Transfer students accounted for 20 percent (215 students) of the student population at Dillard. Compared to the fall, the number of transfer students increased by 30 percent from 65 students in the fall.

Some 835 students, or 77 percent, reported their gender as female. Some 92 percent, or 990 students, are fulltime.

The student population is evenly distributed by classification, a change from previous years when the freshman class was easily the largest.

Seniors this semester led enrollment at 27 percent (309 students). Freshman were right behind seniors, accounting for 27 percent (290 students). Sophomores and juniors represented 24 percent (255 students) and 21 percent (227 students), respectively.

Compared with fall 2021, the top five majors changed slightly.  The top five majors are nursing, biology, criminal justice, psychology and business administration, in that order.

Nursing has 13 percent of students (143) while Biology has 12 percent (135 students).

When the numbers are compared by college, the College of Arts and Sciences has the majority of students, with 783 students, or 72 percent enrolled. The College of Nursing and College of Business has 13 percent each 143 and 141 students, respectively.

Arts and Sciences includes:

– School of Social Sciences, 294 students.

– School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, or STEM, 205.

– School of Humanities, 190.

– School of Health and Wellness, 94.
