Professor appointed to World Affairs council of New Orleans

Dillard University’s Assistant Professor and Director of the Japanese Studies Department, Dr. Katsumi Sohma was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council of New Orleans (WAC/NO). WAC/NO is a non-profit, non-partisan organization. The main objective is to promote a deeper understanding of world events and interest in U.S. foreign policy. She has been a member of the council since 2003 and sees it as a “chance to engage with people in city.”

WAC/NO began the new term in September, but there have not been any specifications on exactly what Sohma’s position entails. Although Sohma’s position may take a lot of her time, she said it will not interfere with her teaching at Dillard.

“I see my leadership role as good public relations for Dillard University,” said Sohma. “Every time I do something with the council my name will come up as, Dr. Sohma, assistant professor& director of Japanese Studies at Dillard University.”
