Jacquees to headline Spring Fest concert on Aprill 22

NEW ORLEANS (April 13, 2017) – R&B singer Jacquees will headline at this year’s Spring Fest concert at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 22, in Dent Hall, according to Amber Fountaine, chair of the Student Activities Board.

“Spring Bling,” this year’s Spring Fest, will be held from Friday, April 17, through Sunday, April 23. All 14 events, including the concert, are free for students and visitors. It will end that Sunday with a Gospel Fest at 6 p.m. in Lawless Chapel.

Jacquees, born Rodriquez Jacquees Broadnax, is a singer-songwriter from Atlanta who is signed with Cash Money Records. He has published eight mix-tapes, most recently “Lost at Sea” with Bird-man, and two albums.

Courtney Williams, director for the Center for Student Engagement and Leadership and the SAB adviser, said students should look forward to the popular events for which Spring Fest is known, such as “Fake the Funk,” where students lip sync their favorite songs, set for 7 p.m. Monday, April 17, in Georges Auditorium.

Some new events will include a “beach blowout foam party,” planned for after the step show at 10:30 p.m. Friday, April 21, on the first floor of the Student Union. (That’s in addition to the beach party at the Dent pool, set for 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19.) The step show, featuring Dukk as guest host, will be held at 7 p.m. in Dent Hall.

Other events will include:

  • Field events, during which faculty/staff and students will compete in flag football, tug of war and sack races.
  •  “Crush on You” video party, featuring some of your favorite throwback songs (suggested attire: blue, green, yellow, red or purple).

Spring Fest is hosted by the SAB, the Center for Student Engagement and Leadership, student government, the National Pan-Hellenic Council and the Division of Student Success.

Williams said the SAB is “expecting a large attendance at all of the events this year. It’s our hope to exceed last year's attendance and reach much more students and members in the community.” Students from other schools are welcome to attend.

SAB Vice Chairman Taylar Keene said, “Our goal is to create lasting memories for our students.”
